Overview
Before working with equipment to perform installation, repairs, or even routine maintenance in a manufacturing environment, precautions must first be taken to de-energize and isolate any relevant energy sources. Lock out / tag out is used to secure those isolated energy sources from accidental activation to prevent personal injury or equipment damage during the work procedures.
Objectives
Upon completion of this exercise, you will be able to:
- Describe the use and purpose of lock out / tag out equipment
- List the basic steps required to lock out and secure an energy source
- Recognize potential energy sources and the actions necessary to secure them
- Complete common scenarios by following the correct lock out / tag out procedures
