North Carolina Central University’s Biomanufacturing Research Institute and Technology Enterprise (BRITE) specializes in life sciences training and research. In the 52,000-square-foot classroom and lab facility, BRITE students earn undergraduate majors, minors, or advanced biotechnical degrees in pharmaceutical sciences or clinical sciences research. Faculty, scientists and students conduct translational and basic research on a range of human diseases. BRITE’s 2022 program highlights include:
- 52 Pharmaceutical Sciences bachelor’s, 11 Clinical Research students, 26 master’s and 2 Ph.D. students
- 99% of graduates are employed or in graduate school
- Five articulation agreements with N.C. community colleges
- $6.2M EDA Build Back Better grant to create an HBCU/HAIU coalition to support biomanufacturing workforce development
- BRITE Futures outreach program engaged 17,000+ students and 800 teachers from 94 N.C. counties since inception and was recently awarded $1.85M from NC GSK Foundation to develop an on-site summer outreach program
- High-throughput screening with large in-house diversity libraries available for collaborative or fee-for-service projects
