This course is designed to explain the concepts of and strategies of sterilization employed by the biomanufacturing industry. The main focus of this course is sterility assurance through the reduction of bioburden. Topics covered include sterility assurance, non-sterile products, sterile products, terminally sterilized products, aseptically produced products, isolator technology, blow fill seal, reasons for sterilization, contamination control, methods of sterilization, disinfection, irradiation, pasteurization, viral clearance, aseptic techniques, working with microorganism cultures, and testing of products for contamination.
Successful completion of this course will prepare the student to maintain sterility in a biomanufacturing setting.
