Learn how to apply fundamental microbiological techniques to a wide range of manufacturing processes regulated by the FDA, USDA, and other agencies.

In this course, you’ll delve into concepts and techniques of microbial detection, isolation, enumeration, and identification plus examine written standard methodology. The end result? A deeper understanding of environmental monitoring, quality control, and reporting. You’ll even study the most commonly tested groups of bacteria and fungi. Plus, you’ll be introduced to fundamental techniques of isolation, detection, enumeration, and identification of bacteria.

For the lab component, you and your team get hands-on experience using basic microbiological laboratory procedure.

The course requires 20 hours conducted in two 8-hour sessions and one 4-hour session that cover:

  • Environmental Monitoring
  • Define fundamental microbiological concepts and theories critical to the regulated pharmaceutical, food, and dietary supplement industries.
  • Explain and demonstrate ground-level techniques of isolation, detection, enumeration,and identification of bacteria and fungi commonly found in industrial settings.
  • Summarize the features of organisms of interest, environmental monitoring rationale, regulatory requirements,standard methodology, and resources available for interpreting laboratory results.
  • Have experience in evaluating results, reporting and quality control.
  • Describe rapid methodologies such as automated gram stainers, automated counters, FAME and MALDI-TOF
  • Describe special interest microbiology topics such as mycoplasma, viruses and prions.
